If every fixture in the house is weak — not just one faucet — the problem is almost never the fixtures. How to diagnose & fix it, step by step
- Test the pressure with a gauge. Buy a water-pressure test gauge with a female hose thread ($10–$15). Screw it onto an outside hose bib or the laundry washer valve, close every other fixture, then open that bib all the way. Read the needle. Normal household pressure is 40–80 psi; code caps it at 80 psi. Below about 40 psi is your whole-house problem, confirmed with a number.
- Fully open the main and meter valves. Cheapest fix, so do it first. Find the main shutoff where the line enters the house and turn it fully counterclockwise (open).
